Scholarship Webpage Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa- LAWA Fellowship Program The Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA) Fellowship Program was founded in 1993 at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., in order to train women's human rights lawyers from Africa who are committed to returning home to their countries in order to advance the status of women and girls in their own countries throughout their careers. Over 50 women's human rights advocates from Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe have participated in the LAWA Program, and we hope to include Fellows from additional countries in the future. Microsoft research PhD Fellowship Program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics This is a two-year fellowship program for outstanding PhD students nominated by their universities. Each nominating agency/university/university body is responsible for its own selection process, and in most cases they will set a closing date in the months preceding the CSC's deadline for nominations. Approximately 200-230 scholarships are awarded each year. Scholarship Webpage Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from DFID) and UK universities, to support scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK. Scholarship Webpage UK- Loughborough University Graduate School International Scholarships Loughborough University offers over 100 postgraduate scholarships taught programme for the 2011/2012 academic year, to new self-financing full-time international students who are permanently resident in a country outside the European Union (EU). The scholarship will cover the costs of postgraduate tuition fees for one academic year. The successful applicant will also be given a partial maintenance grant (£6500) to help fund their studies at the University of Edinburgh. Scholarship Webpage Oppenheimer Fund scholarships for South African Students at University of Oxford The Oppenheimer Fund Scholarships are open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in South Africa applying to start any new degree bearing course, with the exception of PGCert and PGDip courses, at the University of Oxford. The African Studies Centre, University of Oxford, UK, was launched in October 2004, and attracts extremely high quality graduates. 100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living expenses of £13,590 p/a (including return flights) will be awarded for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. Previous Application Deadline: 4 December Scholarship Webpage Mansion House Masters Scholarship for African Students The roots of the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme can be traced back to 1997, when Sir Richard Nichols, then Lord Mayor in the City of London, was particularly impressed during his overseas visits by the high regard in which the City is held by foreign business communities and by the number of students who wished to study in the UK in schools and colleges through business attachments, executive exchanges, and management training. Now firmly established, the Scheme supports the funding of students from overseas taking Masters level degree courses at British Universities or to enable business trainees or officials to undertake study or training in financial and related business activities. University of Edinburgh Distance Learning Master’s Scholarship, UK Each year, the University of Edinburgh, UK offers up to four Edinburgh Global Health Academy Distance Learning Master’s Scholarship for International students from Africa and Developing Countries. The scholarship is mainly for medical/global health and education related courses. Each distance learning scholarship will have a total value over the duration of the programme of £9,000 which will be deducted from the tuition fee for the entire part-time programme of study. Previous Application Deadline: 31 May Scholarship Information and Application Clutton-Brock Scholarship for Postgraduate Students from Zimbabwe The objective of this scholarship scheme is to establish – as a permanent memorial to the late Guy Clutton Brock, Hero of Zimbabwe and graduate of Magdalene College – scholarships at postgraduate level in the University of Cambridge for the benefit of students from Zimbabwe. Subject to the availability of funds, it aim to have up to two Clutton-Brock Scholars in residence at any one time for: (1) a one-year graduate taught course, leading to a postgraduate qualification (usually the MPhil degree) and (2) a three-year course of research, leading to the PhD degree. Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. Irish Aid Fellowships for Postgraduate Applicants from Developing Countries Irish Aid Fellowships for Subject areas relating to Justice, Law & Order, Education, Macroeconomics Private Sector Development & Social Development, Gender, HIV/AIDS, Environment & Governance, are awarded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and are targeted mainly at the countries in which Ireland has established development cooperation programmes: Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Timor Leste and Vietnam, plus the Palestinian territories. Beneficiaries are supported to undertake higher-level education and training in Ireland or within the region.
