The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic supports the mobility of international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists for scholarship stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia.

  • 30 April 2026, 16:00 CET – for stays during the next academic year
  • 31 October 2026, 16:00 CET – for stays during the summer semester of the current academic year

The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP), established in 2005 and funded by the Slovak Ministry of Education, supports mobility of international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. It provides financial support for study, research, teaching, or artistic stays at Slovak higher education institutions and research organisations.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must be:

  • Students: Master’s students or those who have completed at least 2.5 years of university studies outside Slovakia, accepted for academic mobility in Slovakia.
  • PhD students: Enrolled outside Slovakia, accepted by a Slovak university or research institution.
  • University teachers, researchers, artists: Invited to a Slovak institution with a valid research/education certificate.

Restrictions:

  • Not for full-degree students already in Slovakia.
  • Not for applicants who spent 15+ months in Slovakia within the last 36 months.
  • Not for those funded by other public scholarship programmes (e.g., Erasmus+, Visegrad Fund).

How are Candidates Selected?

  • Based on academic quality, proposed study/research/artistic programme, necessity of stay, and NSP budget availability.
  • Applications reviewed by the Programme Administrator and Selection Committee.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

  • Global eligibility (citizens of any country except Slovakia).

Where will the Scholarship be Taken?

  • Slovak higher education institutions and research organisations.

How Many Awards?

  • Not fixed; depends on budget and quality of applications.

What is the Benefit of the Scholarship?

  • Monthly stipend:
    • Students: €620
    • PhD students: €1,025.50
    • Teachers/Researchers/Artists: €1,025.50 – €1,470 (depending on degree and experience)
  • Covers living costs (food, accommodation, etc.).
  • Travel grant (students & PhD students only): €50 – €1,500 depending on distance.
  • Up to €250 reimbursement for medical examination (for non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens staying longer than 90 days).

How Long Will the Scholarship Last?

  • Students: 1–2 semesters (4–10 months)
  • PhD students: 1–10 months
  • Teachers/Researchers/Artists: 1–10 months

  • CV and motivation letter
  • Detailed study/research/teaching/artistic programme
  • Recommendation letters (students: 2; PhD: supervisor; teachers/researchers/artists: publications list)
  • Confirmation of enrolment/employment from home institution
  • Diploma(s) and transcripts
  • Acceptance/invitation letter from Slovak host institution (must be delivered in original form to SAIA in Bratislava within 3 working days after deadline)

How to Apply:

  2. Upload all required documents in Slovak or English (translations required if in other languages).
  3. Submit application before deadline (only one application per call).
