Scholarships available at the McGill University

There is always a standard list for scholarships in the university; however, even if you meet the standard list, it is not a guarantee for the scholarships. Scholarship decisions are made during the admission process and are based on the academic information available at the time of processing the admission.

In-course award programmes for both undergraduate and graduate students currently studying at the McGill University fall under individual faculty jurisdiction.

In addition, the school administers scholarships and financial aids programme to Canada, US and international students alike.

  1. In-course Financial Aid Programme

The programme is designed to help full-time degree students facing financial challenges. It is part of McGill University’s financial commitments to support qualified undergraduate students with financial needs.

Benefits

Quebec/Canadian students receive $3,775 each, while international students receive $8,450 each.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time programme at the university.
  • Students must have satisfactory academic standing.
  • Students must demonstrate financial needs.
  • First-year students are not eligible for aid.
  • Students with disabilities are given special consideration.
  1. Government Aid

This is available to only Quebec, Canadian and US citizens as it is provided by their government. International students are exempted from Government Aid. It can take 6 – 8 weeks for Government Aid application to be processed. Students experiencing delays in the aid can apply for a tuition payment deferral.

  1. In-course Awards and Honours

In-course scholarships are for students who are currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree programmes at the university. The scholarships are awarded by the scholarship committee of individual faculties and disbursed by the Scholarship and Student Aid Office on the basis of their recommendations. The funds are deposited in the students’ fee accounts and recorded accordingly. Students are considered based on their GPA standing.

  1. PBEEE – Quebec Merit Scholarship for Foreign Students

The award is open to international students enrolled in graduate and postgraduate studies. Candidates must not be citizens or permanent residents of Canada and must not have applied for permanent residency.

The value of the scholarship is $25,000 per year, valid for three years. In addition, recipients are exempted from paying higher tuition fees for foreign students and medical insurance coverage.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must meet all eligibility conditions at the closing date of the scholarships.
  • Candidates must have been preselected by the university before the beginning of the session.
  • Foreign candidates must not have an existing scholarship award at the time of the application.
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents are exempted from the scholarships.
  • Double Degree programmes are not admissible.
