The IJP Middle East / Germany Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications. The deadline is June 15, 2026. This fellowship supports up to five journalists from selected Middle East countries to spend two months in Germany for professional exchange and newsroom placement.


The program begins with an introductory conference in Berlin at the end of October. After that, fellows take a German language course and complete a placement at a German host media outlet. Each selected fellow receives 5,000 euros (stipend money + 1.000 euros travel allowance).

About this Program

The IJP Middle East Programme gives early-career journalists from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, the Palestinian Territories, and Israel the chance to work and travel in Germany. The fellowship focuses on professional exchange, reporting experience, and cross-border understanding.

Fellows join an introductory conference in Berlin first. Then they attend a German language course and move into a host media placement in Germany. After the fellowship, participants must submit a report of at least three pages on their experiences, activities, and impressions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be journalists from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestinian Territories, or Israel.
  • The fellowship is intended for young journalists at an early stage of their career.
  • Applicants need very good knowledge of English.
  • Knowledge of German is welcomed but not essential.
  • The recommendation letter should guarantee temporary leave of absence for the duration of the fellowship and serve as evidence of journalistic activity.

What Fellows Receive (Scholarship)

Each fellow receives a one-time payment of 5,000 euros (stipend money + 1.000 euros travel allowance). The amount is intended to cover most travel, food and accommodation costs. Scholarship holders are expected to contribute. There is no remuneration fo journalistic work.
