American University of Cairo
The American University of Cairo functions as a private university for willing learners who wish to pursue professional, graduate and undergraduate courses leading to their respective degrees.
Historically, the university was limited to male students only from inception, however, there was a change in standards when the university enrolled the first female student in 1928. Subsequently, they produced the first set of First Class graduates with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Sciences degrees awarded to each.

The American University of Cairo offers 37 Bachelor’s degree courses, 44 Master’s degrees and 2 Doctoral degrees in Engineering and Applied Sciences. They also offer a number of graduate diplomas in five postgraduate schools viz:

- School of Humanities and Social Sciences
- School of Sciences and Engineering

Cost of Living
An important factor to give close and intimate consideration when deciding on which scholarship scheme to pick up on is accommodation and welfare. While the scheme might have consideration for student’s accommodation and welfare; a parent or guardian might not. That being said, it is important to look into the most essential part of schooling in a foreign land -accommodation.
The American University of Cairo has on-campus residential homes that are gender separated. The gender residences are designed in a way that it helps the institution to fully watch after the students’ upkeep.
For prospective students, it is advisable for them to stay on campus residences as this will give them comfort and security in their environment. Also, they will have enough space for socializing, cooking as well as studying when necessary.
