African Fellowship programs support undergraduate and graduate students in a sries of activities. For instance, to carry out research to advance work on a particular problem in society or build a new community-based initiative and graduate training.

Hence, for professional development and leadership growth of its fellows. It’s sponsored by a non-profit organization, government, or even an individual. Most of the program can last for some months or even years.

World Bank Africa Fellowship: The World Bank African Fellowship program is developed with the purpose of attracting young and vibrant African talent to the World Bank Group workplace. The fellows selected will spend at least six months at their offices in Washington D.C.

Also, they engage fellows on research, field works,and some leading operations. Thereby helping World Bank achieve the goal of decreasing poverty and improving shared prosperity. Hence, fellows have first-hand practical experience in knowledge generation and dissemination, design of global and building institutions to achieve growth in developing countries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship is for African citizens.
  • Candidate must be an undergraduate or a recent graduate.
  • The candidate must have an excellent command of English language.

Imu-Simons African Fellowship: Simons foundation sponsors the program. And they base in New York City. Imu-simons support research sabbaticals which last for a limited period. The foundation offer grants program in mathematics and physical sciences to African students. Because their mission is to advance the frontiers of research in mathematics and physical sciences. They aim at the theoretical sciences radiating from mathematics, computer science, and physics.

Recently, they are organizing a fellowship program 2020 for Mathematicians from African developing countries. So they’re to travel to an internationally known mathematical center of excellence worldwide for combined research. The fellowship covers all expenses up to $5,000.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be from an African country.
  • The grant is for mathematicians or science-related students.
  • The fellowship program is for a limited research period not for postgraduate courses.

Afrika Kommt Fellowship: Afrika Kommt founded by German’s leading enterprises in the year 2008. It’s formed to encourage economic and business development. Therefore, young and talented Africans are further trained in German companies.

The fellowship program will last for eight months, where fellows will gain good practical experience in the enterprise.  In return, the company creates a network of cooperation and trust in Africa. It’s a win-win program for both the candidate and the company involved. The German partner’s companies fund the fellowship program.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have a university degree in a relevant course.
  • Be a citizen of a country in Africa.
  • Candidate must have an excellent command of English language.
  • Not be more than 35years of age.
  • German language skill is an advantage.

In Country Fellowships for Africans (Fellowships in Africa for Africans)

Emerging Institution Fellowship Program (EIFP): EIFP assists young business and development leaders with funds in Africa. The program expects all fellows to have at least an undergraduate degree. Be dedicated to excellence and good command of English.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must;

  • Be a citizen of a country in Africa
  • Have an excellent command of English
  • Have an undergraduate degree.
  • Have at least two years of professional experience.

Machel-Mandela Fellowship: The program funded by the Brenthurst Foundation. Its name in honor of the former president of South Africa and his wife – Nelson Mandela and Graca Machel. The program lasts for at least six months. It aims on assisting African youth in achieving their goal in society.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must:

  • Have an excellent command of English
  • Have an undergraduate or Masters Degree.
  • Have at least two years of professional experience.

Paradigm Initiative Digital Rights and Inclusion Learning Lab (DRILL): Paradigm Initiative (PIN) a social ICT-enterprise sponsors Drill fellowship program. PIN is hosting a DRILL fellowship program at its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. It has a mission of hosting innovative learning around digital rights and inclusions in Africa. The program is for a period of 3 to 6 months starting from February 2020.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience as technology innovators.
  • Have an excellent command of English
