Code for Africa (CfA) is offering stipendโ€based Fellowships to fourteen (14) African Data Scientists and storytellers to empower youth voices and promote a secure digital space through gender projects. 

These Fellowships are part of a joint initiative between Code for Africa, the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), AfricTivistes, CFI Media Development, the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional Office, and the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF), with contributions from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD).

Who can Apply for the Code for Africa (CfA) WanaData Fellowship?

Applicants must:

  • Be a registered WanaData member with at least oneย  (1) year of experience as a data scientist or data storyteller (activists, campaigners, media content creators, influencers, journalists, etc). You must have a portfolio of published work you can share.
  • Ideally, be based in the Sahel region, neighbouring West Africa, or the Horn of Africa (exceptional applicants from elsewhere in Africa may be considered)
  • Be fluent in English or French (Bilingual is a plus)
  • Have a keen interest in digital rights, gende,r and youth civic engagement
  • Have experience in gender data researchย 
  • Possess an interest in the fellowshipโ€™s thematic focus, including cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection, e-democracy, digital mobilisation in social movements, gender SDG16, freedom of expression, and human rights, among others. Demonstrate the ability to track contributions and submit reports efficiently.
  • Be willing to participate in mentorship, training, and outreach activities.
  • Comply with WanaDataโ€™s policies on attribution, privacy, and friendly space guidelines.

Applicants will be selected based on their experience, relevance of their portfolio, regional location, interest in thematic areas, and their ability to contribute actively to the fellowship’s goals.

Each Fellow will receive a monthly stipend of USD 250 for the duration of the Fellowship. In addition, Fellows will gain access to training, mentorship, and continuous support to enhance their work and amplify their impact.
