Applications are now open for the UN Food Systems Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) 2026–2028 cohort. The deadline to apply is 13 July 2026. This global programme supports young changemakers who work on food systems and want to strengthen their leadership and systems thinking skills.
The programme is led by the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Through 2028, selected participants will join peer learning, mentorship, collaboration with UN partners, and practical leadership development.

Eligible Countries: Nationals of low- or middle-income countries (particularly in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean)
Course Location: Global (participants from low- and middle-income countries, particularly Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean)
Duration: Programme activities through 2028; applicants must be committed to participating fully in programme activities through 2028.

About the Course
The Youth Leadership Programme is designed for young people who are already contributing to food systems transformation. It focuses on building leadership capacity while helping participants understand complex food systems challenges through a systems thinking lens.
In addition, the programme connects participants with peers, experts, and UN partners. As a result, selected young leaders can deepen their knowledge, strengthen their influence, and expand collaboration across regions and sectors.
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is for young changemakers who meet the stated eligibility requirements and can participate fully through 2028. In particular, the programme encourages applications from:
- Young farmers
- Entrepreneurs
- Policy advocates
- Researchers
- Science communicators
- Indigenous and local community representatives
- Civil society leaders
Applicants should also meet the following criteria:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be proficient in English
- Be a national of a low- or middle-income country, particularly in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, or Latin America and the Caribbean
- Demonstrate experience in food systems, sustainable development, climate action, or related fields
- Have experience leading or contributing to initiatives within their community, organization, institution, or sector
- Be committed to participating fully in programme activities through 2028
