Lund University

Lund University is regarded as one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. It is a prestigious university located in Sweden and is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. Lund University has eight faculties with over 40,000 students in 270 different programmes. Lund University is in partnership with about 600 universities in nearly 70 countries worldwide.

Studying at Lund university is made easy as the academic year is divided into two semesters the; autumn and spring semesters, each lasting up to about 20 weeks. The autumn semester begins in August/September and the spring semester begins in mainly in January. This autumn academic year of the university runs from around late August or early September through to early June and then the summer holidays commence during June through to August while the spring semester starts in January for about 20 weeks also. The majority of the degree programmes at Lund commences in the autumn semester.

Degree Programs at Lund University

At Lund University, there are over 100 master programmes, 9 bachelor programmes and 1000 stand-alone courses all taught in English. Lund University is divided into eight faculties which are listed below:

  • The Faculty of Engineering,
  • The School of Economics and Management,
  • The Faculty of Performing Arts,
  • The Faculty of Medicine,
  • The Faculties of Humanities and Theology,
  • The Faculty of Science,
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences
  • The Faculty of Law.

The degree programmes studied at Lund university are either a master’s or undergraduate degree levels.

International Student Admission Requirements at Lund University

International student admission requirements are based on the masters and Bachelor degree level.

For Bachelor’s level studies all students must:

  • Have successfully completed their upper secondary education.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL or IELTS

Master’s level studies, all students must:

  • Have been awarded a Bachelor’s degree from an internationally recognised university
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL or IELTS

International students applying for Bachelor or Master degree programmes at Lund University have to follow specific guidelines attached to their country of residence. The main application period for international students is around mid-October to about January for all programmes starting in the autumn semester that is, August every year. A small selection of programmes also accepts applications during June–August for the spring semester start date, January.

Scholarships for International Students at Lund University

  1. Lund University Global Scholarship: This Lund University Scholarship for international students is primarily for Undergraduate and Masters students. The scholarship is hosted by the Lund University, Sweden. The Scholarship programme is targeted at top academic students who are citizens of countries from outside the European Union. Lund University attracts high achieving students from across the globe and also seeks to recognise students by awarding them academic excellence grants. The scholarship is selective, competitive and merit-based. Scholarship grants may cover up to 100% of the tuition fee.

Eligibility and criteria

  • Applicants must be a citizen of a country from outside the European Union
  • Applicants must have applied for a Bachelor or Master’s level studies in the regular university application.
  1. Ingvar Kamprad Scholarship: The aim of the scholarship is to support students enrolled in the Master’s degree programme in Industrial Design. The financial support gained from the scholarship is aimed for students that have difficulties to afford the living costs in Sweden. The scholarship also pays tuition fees and these are paid directly to the university on behalf of the student. The scholarship is a two-year duration.

Eligibility criteria

  • The scholarship is available for students who are applying to the Master’s Programme in Industrial Design.
  • The Swedish government decided to apply tuition fees for non-EU/EEA-students, the Stichting IKEA Foundation established two new scholarships.
  • The selection will be from the portfolio. The tuition fees will be paid directly to the University.
  1. Scholarship for the Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation: The scholarships are made available for students applying to the Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Students apply for the scholarship through the Lund University Global Scholarship application. The Scholarship grants may cover up to 100% of the tuition fee.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be a citizen of a country from outside the European Union
  • Applicants must have made a complete application for Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies in the university application.
