About Disability Scholarships
Many organisations have become interested in the education of disabled students. They award them some money and other financial aids to help them achieve their academic goals. Some schools also make provisions for the disabled students, thereby helping their learning issues, environmental challenges and medical setbacks.
Every student with different impediments, physically, behaviorally, emotionally and cognitively qualify for the numerous disability scholarships made available. This helps them to stay in school and out of debt, a better way to achieve their academic and career goals.
Scholarships and Financial Aids for Students with Disabilities
- The Alexander Graham Bells College Scholarship Awards
The organization offers several scholarships for full-time deaf and hard of hearing students. It is open for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at an accredited college or university.
To be eligible, the applicant must be using Listening and Spoken Language as a means of communication and hearing loss must have been diagnosed before the applicant’s fourth birthday.
The benefit of the scholarship is $5000.
- Cheryl D. Conkling Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship is provided for students with hearing or other physical activities but wish to acquire education despite the disability. Students must be fresh undergraduates enrolling in accredited colleges or universities in the fall.
Value of the scholarship: $12,000.
Application deadline varies.
- Michael Yasick ADHD Scholarship
The scholarship is offered to students diagnosed with ADHD enrolled in a two or four-year undergraduate programme.
The value of the scholarship is $2000, plus one year of coaching (valued at $4,400).
- Rise Scholarship Foundation, Inc.
This scholarship is awarded annually to five students diagnosed with ADD or ADHD and an additional learning disability. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.5 to qualify. The worth of the scholarship is $2,500.
- Autism Delaware
The scholarship is specifically designed for adults with autisms who wish to pursue a postsecondary education. Applicants must submit a cover letter stating their reasons for pursuing a degree and their employment plans after graduation.
- Kelly Law Team Autism Scholarship
Two scholarships are awarded annually to students pursuing a secondary education. Applicants must submit an essay explaining how the scholarship will be helpful to them.
- KFM Making a Difference
The founder, Kerry Magro was diagnosed with autism at age four. He holds a master’s degree in Strategic Communications and Management and dreams of helping autism patients enjoy educational success.
- American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation
Graduates with disabilities who are enrolled in Communication Sciences and Disorders are eligible to apply.
- Google Lime Scholarships for Students with Disabilities
The award is a one-time scholarship designed for international undergraduate and postgraduate students with disabilities.
The amount of the scholarship is $10,000 in U.S. or $5000 in Canada.
- Microsoft Disability Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded to high school students with financial needs who plan to attend a vocational or academic college.
- Science Graduate Students Grant Fund
The scholarship is awarded to graduate and professional students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Pre-Medical-/Dental areas.
- Anne Ford Scholarship
Anne Ford Scholarship is awarded to students who will enroll in a four-year programme in the university. It is designed for students with strong financial needs. The amount of the scholarship is $10,000 for the four years or $2,500 per year for four years.
Organisations that Offer Disability Scholarships
- The Alastair McEwin Scholarship.
To be eligible, applicant must be an Australian citizen undertaking studies as a Commonwealth supported student; and registered with the University of Adelaide Disability Support.
- Sir Charles Bright Scholarships.
Eligibility criterion is that the applicant must be an undergraduate.
- Microsoft Disability Scholarship.
Eligibility criteria include: students must be lovers of technology; must have strong financial needs; and also major in Engineering, Computer Science, Law, Business or related courses.
- Google Lime Scholarship Programme.
Eligibility criteria: students must study in U.S or Canada; must be studying Computer Science or any related field.
