Tell Me About The Lake Chad Youth Fellowship:

The Lake Chad Climate Justice Youth Fellowship, implemented by the Development of Educational Action Network (DEAN Initiative) and funded by the Climate Justice Resilience Fund (CJRF)  is designed to empower young grassroots leaders from communities around the Lake Chad Basin to engage in climate justice advocacy, community mobilization, and local climate solutions. Applicants must be between 18–35 years old and must reside in or have strong roots in communities directly impacted by the Lake Chad crisis.

Who can Apply For The Lake Chad Youth Fellowship?

The fellowship eligibility criteria include:

  • Age: Must be between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application.
  • Location: Open to candidates from the Lake Chad region (Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger).
  • Commitment to Climate Action: Demonstrated passion or experience in climate justice, advocacy, or environmental sustainability.
  • Availability: Must commit to the full 24-month fellowship duration and all program activities.

How are Applicants Selected?

  • Application Submission: Applicants complete an online form with personal information, a 300–500-word statement of purpose, and a CV.
  • Initial Screening: Applications are reviewed based on eligibility, relevance of experience, and innovation of proposed solutions.
  • Interview Round: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed virtually to assess communication skills and commitment to climate action.
  • Final Selection: 20 fellows are selected with consideration for gender, experience, and geographic diversity.
