The University of Ottawa has announced the $11 million Entrance & Excellence scholarships for African students. The entrance and excellence scholarship will provide incoming students with a four-year scholarship to cover the partial cost of their university tuition.

The University of Ottawa is proud of the diversity of its international student body. This Entrance and Excellence Scholarships: average-based renewable scholarships are for students from Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, India or Bangladesh studying in English, who are admitted in the Fall 2024 term (September start date).

The University of Ottawa is proud of its internationally diverse student body. As a result, beginning in the fall 2024 term, international students from these countries will benefit from significant reductions in their tuition fees when they study in one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English.

All students who are eligible for this scholarship will automatically receive it upon enrolment. It will be applied directly to their tuition fees.

The Entrance scholarship cannot be combined with the Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English.
Our scholarship program is one of the most generous in Canada. It rewards not only your pre-university academic achievements, but also your achievements every term of full-time study at University. The new scholarship will give African students studying in English access to numerous pilot programs in three faculties for a significantly reduced cost of tuition.

In a bid to assist students throughout the application process, the University of Ottawa will host a number of virtual sessions to answer questions and guide prospective students on the application process.

Who can apply for University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship?

Students from Africa, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia or Vietnam will automatically be eligible for an Entrance or Excellence renewable, average-based scholarship when they enrol in an eligible undergraduate program offered in English. Students from China or South Korea will be considered for Excellence scholarships in those same programs.

To be eligible for these scholarships, international students must meet the following criteria:

  • be a citizen of any country in Africa or one of the countries listed 
  • be newly admitted in the fall 2024 term in one of the eligible undergraduate programs offered in English in one of the faculties listed
  • not enrol in the French immersion stream
  • have a valid study permit when classes start
  • be enrolled full time.

Note: Canadian citizens with dual citizenship (Canada and another country) are not eligible since they already qualify for Canadian tuition rates.

What is the Benefit of University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship?

Scholarship amounts vary, depending on the admission average and the faculty offering the program. 

Excellence scholarships are awarded through a competitive process among the top candidates with an admission average of 90% or higher who apply for admission by April 1, 2024, and whose admission has been processed by April 15, 2024. Candidates whose first choice is the University of Ottawa will be favoured. Recipients must start their program in September. Insofar as possible and to maximize diversity, each faculty will award the same number of scholarships.

How to Apply for University of Ottawa Entrance & Excellence Scholarship:

  • Excellence scholarships are awarded through a competitive process among the top candidates with an admission average of 90% or higher who apply for admission by April 1, 2024, and whose admission has been processed by April 15, 2024.
  • Candidates whose first choice is the University of Ottawa will be favoured.
  • Recipients must start their program in September. 

How to Apply:

  • First the student has to apply here: https://www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-105/
  • Then the University would receive the application and generate a Student Number which the prospective student would use to login to the school’s portal, UOZone, and then submit their results and documents for review.
  • After a successful review, they will be offered a conditional admission offer which will include the scholarship depending on their average.
