The NPGH LEADERs Global Health Fellowship 2027 is a year-long programme for doctoral and medical graduates and early-career scientists, aimed at building an international research presence. The Fogarty LAUNCH Fellowship Program and NPGH LEADERs Consortium provide structured global health research training for U.S. and LMIC (low‑ and middle‑income country) scholars. Fellows conduct 12 months of full‑time research at approved international sites, with mentorship from both U.S. and international partners.

Who can apply?

U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents:

  • Predoctoral: enrolled in a doctoral programme, ≥1 year completed.
  • Postdoctoral: doctoral degree within the last 6 years (PhD, MD, DDS, DVM, DrPH, PharmD, etc.) or currently in a postdoc fellowship/residency/advanced degree.

LMIC Citizens/Permanent Residents (Cameroon, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nepal, Peru, Thailand, Uganda):

  • Must be affiliated with approved partner institutions.
  • Same degree requirements as U.S. applicants.
  • Required to spend 1–3 months at a U.S. consortium university for short‑term training.

How are applicants selected?

  • Must have two mentors:
    • One at a U.S. consortium university (Michigan, Minnesota, Washington, Indiana, Hawai’i).
    • One at an approved international partner site.
  • Submit research proposal, tentative budget, NIH biosketch (via SciENcv), personal statements, and mentoring plan.
  • Provide 2 letters of recommendation (U.S. mentor + international site mentor).
  • Applications reviewed Sept–Nov 2026; interviews late Sept–mid Oct; results by Feb 2027.
  • Fellowship begins July 1, 2027.
