The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is accepting applications for the 9th edition of the Next Generation Investigative Journalism (NGIJ) Fellowship. This fully funded residential fellowship will run from September to November 2026 in Ghana. It targets journalism graduates, early-career journalists, and young professionals who want to strengthen their investigative reporting skills, especially in accountability and anti-corruption journalism.

Tell Me About the Fellowship Programme:

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is inviting applications for the 9th Edition of the NGIJ Fellowship. This fully funded, three‑month residential programme in Ghana equips young journalists and professionals with practical skills in accountability journalism and anti‑corruption reporting. It is part of the PAIReD programme (“Countering corruption through accountability journalism and improved freedom of expression environment in Ghana”), supported by BMZ, EU, SECO, and implemented by GIZ.

What Fellows Will Gain:

  • Training on anti‑corruption reporting, RTI Law, data journalism, and fact‑checking.
  • Mentorship with MFWA’s projects: Fact‑Check Ghana and The Fourth Estate.
  • Financial & Editorial Support to produce at least one investigative story.
  • Certificate of Honour upon completion.
  • Monthly stipend during the fellowship.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be journalism graduates, early‑career journalists, or young professionals with a passion for journalism.
  • Commit to full participation in the residential programme (September – November 2026).
  • Be Ghanaian nationals.
  • Female applicants and those outside Greater Accra are especially encouraged.

How Are Applicants Selected?

Selection is based on:

  • Motivation letter (max 400 words).
  • Two published articles (or blog post for non‑journalists).
  • Employer consent letter (for staff journalists).
  • CV with two referees.

  • Ghana only.

  • Residential programme in Ghana.

  • 10 fellows will be selected.
