The AERC–World Bank Visiting Scholars Program is a collaborative initiative between the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the World Bank Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE). It provides African researchers the opportunity to spend 4–6 months at the World Bank to enhance their skills, strengthen global linkages, and contribute to economic policy research relevant to Africa’s development.

- Be an AERC researcher (including those in the AERC Collaborative PhD Programme – CPP).

- Women, francophone, and lusophone candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
How are Fellows Selected?
- Selection based on eligibility, research relevance, and alignment with World Bank priorities.

What is the benefit of the fellowship?
Visiting scholars will:
- Join the Office of the Chief Economist for Africa Region (DECAF) team.
- Attend DECAF‑led activities and capacity‑building sessions.
- Collaborate on World Bank Regional Flagship Studies.
- Revise draft papers for submission to the World Bank Working Paper Series and ranking journals.
- Present at least one seminar on their research.
- Contribute to ongoing World Bank Africa Region analytical work.
- Build a repository of research interests and networks.
How Long Will the Fellowship Last?
- 4–6 months (2026/2027 cohort).
