The 2027 EDGE Fellowship is open to early-career conservationists leading locally led projects for eligible EDGE species. The programme offers training, mentorship, technical support, and a grant of GBP 15,000 for project implementation.


The fellowship uses a two-stage process. First, applicants submit an Expression of Interest. Then, shortlisted candidates are invited to submit a full application.

Application Deadline: 17:00 BST Wednesday 10 June 2026
Eligible Countries: Applicants must be nationals or long-term residents of the country where their conservation project will take place, with strong links to that region or landscape.
Program Duration: 28 months; January 2027 to May 2029.
Program Location: Projects take place in the applicant’s country; applicants must be nationals or long-term residents of the country where the project will take place. From 2027, each annual cohort will include at least 14 fellows from countries outside the G12, EU, New Zealand, and South Korea.

About this Program

The EDGE Fellowship supports conservation leaders working on eligible EDGE species. Specifically, it helps fellows develop and deliver locally led conservation projects in their own countries.

In addition, the program combines funding with practical support. Fellows receive training, mentorship, peer learning, and guidance to build a comprehensive project plan.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be an early-career conservationist
  • Be committed to leading conservation action for an eligible EDGE species
  • Be a national or long-term resident of the country where the project will take place, with strong links to the specific region or landscape
  • Demonstrate the local conservation need for the proposed work
  • Be ready to take part in training, mentoring and peer learning as part of the Fellowship
  • Proposed project must focus on an eligible EDGE species included in the application list
  • Species classified as Ineligible are not eligible for the 2027 EDGE Fellowship call
  • Species downlisted to NT or LC in the 2026.1 Red List will not be eligible for support under the fellowship
