The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) is inviting applications for the Africa Fellows in Education Program 2026/2027. This two-year fellowship supports young researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa who want to build expertise in education policy and evidence-based decision-making.


The program combines research, policy development, training, mentorship, and international networking. In addition, fellows carry out in-country activities in their home countries and may access regional and abroad training and networking opportunities.

About this Program

Africa Fellows in Education Program (AFEP) offers fully supported fellowships for young African researchers. The program aims to strengthen expertise in education policy research and analysis. Therefore, selected fellows receive structured support to develop research and evaluation projects with guidance from the program and local scientific mentors.

Fellows also benefit from short courses, lectures, and international networking. Moreover, the program creates opportunities to engage with education policy questions that matter in their countries.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • Be 35 or younger
  • Hold a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field with strong quantitative focus
  • Demonstrate experience with quantitative data analysis
  • Demonstrate interest in education policy research and analysis
  • Be affiliated with a government, research, or higher education institution
  • Be proficient in English

What Fellows Receive:

  • $25,000 research grant
  • Up to $25,000 in covered expenses for mentorship, conference travel, and in-country workshops
  • Opportunity to attend two prominent international conferences on the economics of education
  • Short courses on evaluation methods, communications, incentive structures, and related topics
  • Lectures on testing and performance measurement
  • Direct support and supervision from advisors from Stanford University and other African and international organisations

Program Components

  • Develop a research or evaluation project under program supervision and with local scientific mentors
  • Participate in in-country activities and regional or abroad network and training opportunities
  • Participate in short courses and lectures on relevant topics
