About the Internship

IHRB is seeking 1–2 experienced Researchers/Writers with specialization in climate adaptation and resilience. The selected candidate or candidates will lead research and storytelling for the next phase of the JUST Stories project.

The role combines qualitative research, analytical writing, field engagement, and collaboration with communications teams. In addition, the work aims to connect local climate experiences with wider systems, policy, and resilience debates.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct landscape reviews and identify case studies through global networks and open calls.
  • Develop analytical frameworks for effective and just adaptation.
  • Design and carry out interviews and field visits with institutional actors and community leaders.
  • Ensure high ethical standards during research and engagement activities.
  • Produce high-quality stories that combine human narratives, analysis, and systemic understanding.
  • Collaborate with communications teams to develop multi-format outputs.
  • Contribute to evidence-building and synthesize lessons across stories.
  • Support engagement at high-level events and influence efforts.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants should have over 7 years of research and writing experience, including primary research and long-form journalism or report writing.
  • They should demonstrate expertise in climate adaptation and resilience, especially community-led or local approaches, climate resilience in vulnerable contexts, or nature-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as UNFCCC adaptation frameworks and resilience metrics is expected.
  • Experience working in sensitive political and social environments is required.
  • Experience with frontline communities, Indigenous groups, or worker organizations is desirable.
  • A background in journalism, anthropology, development studies, or human rights research is desirable.
  • Engagement with climate finance, policy, or philanthropy sectors is desirable.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in their country.
  • Candidates must have a reliable internet connection and provide necessary legal documentation.

Skills Preferred: Exceptional storytelling and analytical writing skills; strong qualitative research and interview techniques; ability to translate local insights into systemic relevance; high emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity; excellent organizational skills for remote work; additional language skills relevant to project geographies are desirable.
