Stanford University

Stanford University is a private research university based in Stanford, California in the US. Stanford University was founded in 1885 by Senator Leland Stanford and his wife Jane. When the couple lost their only child Leland Jr. to typhoid in 1884, setting up Stanford University served as the most fitting memorial.

Today, Stanford has been transformed into a world-leading institution of research. It has 18 Institutes spanning Medicine, Law, Humanities & Sciences, Engineering, Education, Earth and Business. It boasts 20 libraries which hold over 9.5 million volumes. Its annual research budget is in the region of $1.6 billion.

Its current student population is pegged at 16,424 and academic faculty staff of 4,478. Stanford has produced many outstanding alumni, including one-time President of the United States, Herbert Hoover. As it stands, it counts 19 Nobel Laureates within its community and 30 living billionaires.

Stanford has one of the largest campus sizes in the world (8,180 acres), making it a hub of diverse groups and communities from around the world. Nearly all undergraduates and a large percentage of its graduate students live on campus.

Stanford has consistently ranked in the top five schools in the world for decades now. It sits in the number two spot in the current QS World Rankings, second only to MIT. In the area of sports, Stanford has well for itself. It is one of two private institutions in the Division 1 FBS Pac-12 Conference and has won the NACDA Directors’ cup for consecutive years.

  • Knight-Hennessy Scholarship At Stanford University, 2020: This scholarship is for 100 high-achieving students from around the world. They will receive full funding to pursue a graduate degree at Stanford.
