Tell Me About The McGill University Entrance Bursary:

McGill Universityโ€™s Entrance Bursary Program supports the academic pursuits of qualified undergraduate students from low- to modest-income families who require financial assistance. The goal of the program is to make the University more accessible to students facing financial challenges by supplementing other funding sources such as government aid, Indigenous Band Support Funding, part-time work, parental support, and other resources. The award amounts vary depending on financial need and program tuition rates. A limited number of entrance bursaries are also renewable and tenable for up to four years, provided the student continues to demonstrate financial need and maintains academic standing.

Who can Apply for the McGill University Entrance Bursary?

To be considered for the Entrance Bursary Program, applicants must:

Get Up to $100,000 Student Loan for Your Master in US or Canada.

Got Admission to Study in US or Canada? See if you are eligible for international student loan

  • enrol in a full-time degree program at the University
  • demonstrate financial need, including the intention to apply for government student aid and/or Indigenous Band Support Fundingย 

Students registered with the Student Accessibility & Achievement may be eligible for financial aid while pursuing a reduced course load.

How are Applicants Selected?

Award amounts are determined by:

  • The level of financial need demonstrated by the student and their family, relative to other applicants.
  • The tuition fee rate is based on the studentโ€™s program of study and residency status (Quebec, rest of Canada, U.S., or International).

What is the Benefit of the McGill University Entrance Bursary?

Additionally, the bursary benefits include:

  • Financial assistance through an entrance bursary, the value of which depends on financial need and tuition rate.
  • Students receiving this aid are automatically approved to seek employment through the Universityโ€™s Work Study Program.
  • Awards are credited in two equal instalments at the start of the fall and winter terms.

How Long Will the Award Last?

Entrance bursaries are typically not automatically renewed. However, a limited number of renewable bursaries are available for up to four years, provided renewal criteria are met (ongoing financial need and academic performance).

How to Apply:

Upon notification of acceptance to the University (your official letter of acceptance can be found in your McGill Applicant Portal), the application becomes available on Minerva.

There are two steps to complete:

1. In Minerva:

  • Select the Financial Aid/Awards tab > Financial Aid Menu > Apply for a McGill Entrance Bursary > Apply to Entrance Bursary Program > Complete and then submit your application.

2. Submit a CSS Financial Aid Profile if you are a:

  • Canadian (citizen or permanent resident) students living outside of Canada
  • U.S. students
  • International (non-US) students
