The Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, through its Institute of Hydrogen Technology, is offering a PhD student position within the department of Experimental Materials Mechanics for a DFG-funded research project. This cutting-edge initiative focuses on developing high-performance magnesium (Mg) alloys and aims to unravel the atomic-scale mechanisms responsible for the strength and ductility of Mg-rare earth (RE) based alloys. Utilizing advanced microstructural characterization and in/ex situ nanoindentation-based techniques, the research will support alloy optimization and contribute to the development of digital twins and new RE-free Mg systems. The position is located in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, Germany, and is initially limited to 36 months. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic international research environment contributing to sustainability and climate solutions.
