Tell Me About the Academy For Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Kenya 2024 

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 Kenya Academy for Women Entrepreneurs. The U.S. Embassy Nairobi, in conjunction with the Ushindi Empowerment Group, is inviting women entrepreneurs from Nairobi who have at least 3 years of experience and are interested in expanding their businesses or exploring international trade to apply for the program. The main goal is to offer business management training to female entrepreneurs in Nairobi who are prepared to grow their businesses. This initiative is supported by the UPS Foundation. 

The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) was established in 2019 by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). AWE aims to equip women entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and networks necessary to launch and expand successful businesses. AWE is currently operational in over 100 countries and has impacted over 25,000 women entrepreneurs globally. The Ushindi Empowerment Group is a community-based organization committed to empowering communities and marginalized groups by transforming lives.

Who can Apply for the Academy For Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Kenya 2024 

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: 

  • Kenyan women entrepreneurs, aged 25 to 45, who reside in Nairobi.
  • Seeking to grow their business and have at least 2–3 years of entrepreneurial experience.
  • Commitment to scale their business or explore international trade.
  • Commit to actively participate in all program components and impact assessments.
  • Have basic computer skills and access to the Internet.
  • Own and/or lead a business with demonstrated potential for growth.
  • Must be able to commit on average five hours per week to AWE both physically and virtually as required by the program.
  • Have a good understanding of both written and spoken English.
  • Women who hold elected or appointed government positions are not eligible for this program. (AWE Alumni are eligible to apply.)
