I studied petroleum engineering from the university but I’ve never earned income directly with my university degree. As a matter of fact, I make a living today using self developed skills, some of which I’ll be sharing with you today.
Academic qualification or lack of it should not be an excuse to be unproductive. There are numerous opportunities out there waiting for the people with the right skill to grab them.
So Today, I share with you 10 high paying careers you don’t need a university degree to start. If you have the interest and resolve to develop any or a combination of the needed skills, you can make a fortune from these careers. But you must know that there are no guarantees. So you have to put in the effort, and keep learning.

- Writing Career
If you have the ability to communicate through writing, you can build a career and even a business from it. Communication, whether written or spoke, is one of the most important skills you should have. You can start a blog, get a writing job, offer freelance writing services without needing to present a university degree. If you continue developing your writing skill, you will continue to earn more. Most people won’t make a fortune right away, but it’s certainly possible to get well paid from writing.
- Video Editing and Production
You are watching a video right now. There are millions of videos on YouTube. You don’t need a university degree to create these videos. You just need to learn how to use available software applications. You can build a high paying career or even a successful business with your video production skill.
- Photography and graphic design
I had to put photography and graphic design into one category, because they go hand in hand. Like video production and editing, photographers and graphic designers are always needed. Recently, a Nigerian photographer, Kasope posted his alluring photos of Mercedes Benz on Twitter. The automaker was impressed with his work and accepted to offer him a job on his request.

You don’t need a university degree to start an agribusiness. You only need requisite training to start on a small scale.

In my many rides with Uber drivers, more than 80% of them confirm to be earning a lot more than they were from their previous job. You only need driving skill, a drivers license and a car to start. How much you make will depend on the demand and the time you commit to the job.
Many careers that have the potential to pay you high income do not require a four or five-year university degree. The examples listed here are just a few of the alternative careers to consider.
