Essay Competition for South African Students to Celebrate 2010 International Space Week-Win a Laptop

Essay Writing competition for secondary and present/ future undergraduate students in South Africa under the age of 18.

The Southern African Amateur Radio Satellite Association in co-operation with the South African Amateur Radio Development Trust has launched an essay competition to celebrate the 2010 International Space Week. World Space Week is a time to probe what we know, what it means, and what we have yet to learn about the mysteries of the cosmos. It is an International Celebration of Science and Technology. The theme for World Space Week 2010, which ran from 4 to 10 October, is “Mysteries of the Cosmos”.

Essay Topic
Contestants should write an essay on the topic “If you were an astronaut on the international space station, what experiment would you like to carry out and why?”.

Contest Award
The first prize is an Acer Aspire 1 Netbook with several consolation prizes.
Every person entering will receive a certificate.

The essay competition is open to all learners -present and future undergraduate students- under the age of 18.
1. Learners/Student contestants must be under 18 years of age and attending school or home schooling
2. Students must be resident in the Republic of South Africa
3. Students who submit an essay of less than 600 words and more than 1000 words will be disqualified
4. Only one entry per person is permitted
5. Entries may be in a South African language of choice with English, the preferred language.

Essay Writing and Submission Guideline
The essay must be the original work of the learner and be between 600 and 1000 words.
Entries must include the following in the Email:
First name and surname
Name of School
School address details, email and telephone number
In the case of a school group entry, name of the coordinating Teacher or parent and contact details.
Entries of school group participants must be grouped together and sent in one email.

* Entries must be submitted in word format by email to [email protected] with Spaceweek 2010 in the subject line

The decisions of the judges is final.
