The UM Social Justice Scholarship programme supports diversity and inclusivity while promoting the rule of law, in line with UM’s Global Engagement Policy 2024-2030. It awards a full scholarship each year, covering tuition and a monthly stipend, to outstanding non-EU/EEA students in the master’s programme in Globalisation and Law who demonstrate a commitment to human rights and the rule of law.

The UM Social Justice Scholarship is a fully funded award offered by Maastricht University (Netherlands). It supports talented students from outside the EU/EEA who have demonstrated a strong commitment to human rights and the rule of law. The scholarship is tied to UM’s Globalisation and Law Master’s programme and reflects the university’s values of diversity, inclusivity, and global engagement.

Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Hold nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, or Suriname.
- Meet Dutch visa/residence permit requirements.
- Apply for the Globalisation and Law Master’s programme for 2027–2028.
- Be no older than 35 years on 1 September 2027.
- Have a GPA of at least 7.5/10 (75%).
- Show a proven track record in supporting human rights and/or rule of law.
- Preferably not already hold a Master’s degree.
How Are Scholars Selected
- Applications are checked by UM International Services Desk.
- Faculty of Law ranks top candidates.
- Shortlisted applicants are interviewed and must present an action plan on how their studies will strengthen human rights/rule of law.
- Final selection communicated by May 2027.

- €20,150 living allowance (13 months, ~€1,550/month).

- Accommodation provided until July 2028 (mandatory).

- 13 months (duration of the Globalisation and Law Master’s programme).
