The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) South Africa Office, in partnership with SATRI and co-funded by the European Union, is recruiting two Research Assistants on short-term contracts (July–December 2026).
This opportunity focuses on just transition research and community engagement, translating worker and community voices into gender-just demands and policy proposals, and documenting case studies.

Who can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Hold an Honours degree in relevant fields (Master’s degree advantageous).
- Have 3+ years research experience (qualitative methods preferred).
- Have 2–3 years labour environment experience or familiarity with unions, civil society, or community organisations.
- Demonstrate understanding of energy transition, gender justice, and labour rights.
- Possess strong writing, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Be willing to travel (fieldwork in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal).
- Communicate fluently in English; proficiency in local languages (Setswana, Sepedi, isiZulu) is highly advantageous.
