The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is accepting applications for the ISS Dakar: Junior Fellow opportunity in Senegal. This 12-month fellowship is based at the ISS Regional Office for West Africa and the Sahel in Dakar. Applications close on 19 June 2026.
The program is designed for young Senegalese professionals interested in peace, security, governance, terrorism, and violent extremism. During the fellowship, the selected fellow will support research, contribute to policy writing, assist with workshops, and track political and security developments in the region.

About this Program
The ISS Dakar Junior Fellow program offers a junior research fellowship under the supervision of a Senior Researcher. Fellows will carry out desk and field research and help produce short policy articles.
In addition, the fellow will support the preparation and organisation of workshops in Dakar and selected countries. The role also includes attending seminars, workshops, and conferences, then preparing relevant reports and meeting minutes.
Furthermore, the fellow will conduct and present a weekly review of political and security developments in the region. Additional project-related tasks may also be assigned by the Senior Researcher.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be nationals of Senegal.
- Applicants must be under 30 years of age.
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, politics, law, history, international relations, or a related field.
- Applicants must be fluent in either French or English, both written and spoken.
- Command of one or more local languages is an added advantage.
- Applicants should have good computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and Prezi.

Program Components
Provide background research; design and undertake desk and field research under guidance of the Senior Researcher; assist with the preparation and organisation of workshops in Dakar and selected countries; attend seminars, workshops and conferences and prepare relevant reports; prepare minutes of meetings; conduct and present a weekly review of political and security developments in the region; write policy articles under the supervision of the Senior Researcher; undertake additional tasks related to the project as assigned by the Senior Researcher
