The Dalai Lama Trust is delighted to announce ‘The Dalai Lama Trust Scholarship’ for the year 2025. This scholarship is fully funded and administered by The Dalai Lama Trust, Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
When is the Application Deadline:
📅 Undergraduate Scholarship: June 15, 2025
📅 Postgraduate Scholarship: August 31, 2025

Tell Me About The Award:
The Dalai Lama Trust Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity offered by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Tibetan students in need of financial support to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate degree programs. Funds are deposited directly into the student’s personal bank account, preferably with State Bank of India (SBI).

Which Fields are Eligible?
🎓 Only Degree Programs
(💡 Vocational and certificate programs are not eligible)
Type:
- Undergraduate Degree Programs (minimum 3 years)
- Postgraduate Degree Programs (only for former DLT undergrad scholars)
Who can Apply?
Undergraduate Applicants: Must meet any one of the following:
- Academic Consistency: Performed well overall, even if Class XII marks are low (requires Form B)
- Moral Character: Honest, responsible, and well-mannered (requires Form B)
- Family Hardship: Orphaned/semi-orphaned or financially challenged (requires Form A and verification)
Common Criteria (All Applicants):
- Must possess valid Green Book (GB) with contributions made till March 31, 2024
- Must hold a valid Registration Certificate (RC)
- Applicants in Nepal, Bhutan, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, or Gangtok must provide refugee verification from the Tibetan Settlement Officer
- Must not be receiving any other scholarship
- Gap year students must explain the reason in their application
Postgraduate Applicants:
- Must have received the Dalai Lama Trust Undergraduate Scholarship
- Must provide complete UG academic records and certificates
- Must fulfill all core documentation requirements (GB, RC, etc.)
How are Applicants Selected?
Based on a combination of financial need, character references, academic consistency, and submission of the required documents and forms (Form A/Form B).
Which Countries Are Eligible?
🌍 Tibetan students living abroad — including India, Nepal, Bhutan, and other locations with Tibetan settlements
Where will the Award be Taken?
📍 Any accredited college/university where the applicant is pursuing or admitted for a degree program

What is the Benefit of the Award?

How Long Will the Award Last?
- Undergraduate: For the full duration of a minimum 3-year degree
- Postgraduate: For the full duration of the PG program (typically 2 years)

A. This scholarship is only valid for Degree courses. Vocational courses or courses that offer certificates will not be considered for scholarship.

A. Yes, you can apply. However, as the Undergraduate scholarship is intended for a minimum period of 3 years, priority is given to students who are applying to their first year of an undergraduate course.
Q. Can I apply for another scholarship in addition to the Dalai Lama Trust Scholarship?
A. No, this scholarship is only awarded to those students who do not have any other scholarships.
Q. Can I apply for Postgraduate scholarship if I did not receive Undergraduate scholarship?
