The Swansea University International Postgraduate Research Excellence Scholarship (SUIPRES) is a competitively awarded scholarship scheme open to overseas PhD and Professional Doctorate applicants, who are eligible for the international rate of tuition fees and can demonstrate excellence in academic achievement.

Who can Apply for the Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship?
To apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Apply for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate programme at Swansea University
- Hold, or be expected to achieve, a First Class or 2:1 UK undergraduate degree (or international equivalent), and/or a Distinction in a UK Master’s degree (or international equivalent)
- Be classed as an international student and pay the international tuition fee rate
- Be a new applicant (not a current, returning, or transfer PhD/Doctorate student)
- Not be applying for a Master’s-level course
- Not be fully sponsored by a third party
Please note that these are minimum entry requirements; excellence must be demonstrated beyond academic qualifications as part of your application for your chosen course.

What is the Benefit of the Swansea University International Excellence Scholarship?
The scholarship covers the difference between the international and home tuition fee rates for the duration of the programme. This means that successful applicants will pay the UK home rate, which is currently £4,786 for the 2024/25 academic year. The amount increases annually in line with UKRI regulations (typically 3%).
