Who can Apply for the British Council Languages Teacher Training Scholarship?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Hold a 2:1 Bachelor of Honours degree (or predicted 2:1), or a relevant Master’s or PhD, or an international equivalent.
  • Have a degree in French, German or Spanish, or another subject (including 2:2 degrees) with significant experience or knowledge of the target language.
  • Demonstrate language proficiency sufficient for teaching to A Level standard.
  • Secure a place on an eligible non-salaried teacher training scheme in England by September 2025.
  • International applicants must provide a Statement of Compatibility (ENIC) for overseas qualifications.

How are Applicants Selected?

The selection process includes three stages:

  • Eligibility checks
  • Assessment of the application
  • Virtual interview on Microsoft Teams, including a presentation (partly in English and partly in the target language).

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Passion and skill for teaching languages
  • Motivation to teach
  • Relevant teaching or youth experience
  • Knowledge of language education in England
  • Intercultural experience
  • Ability to inspire others in language learning
