The Athol Mann Award for Classical Voice was established in 2018 through a generous bequest from Emeritus Professor Athol Mann, a passionate supporter of opera and classical music in New Zealand. The scholarship supports students majoring in Classical Voice at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM), Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington, encouraging excellence and contribution to the university’s musical community.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full‑time at the New Zealand School of Music majoring in Classical Voice in the year following application.
  • Include students completing their study in Trimester 1 of the following year.
  • Preference given to 300‑level and Honours students, but all undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply.

How are Applicants Selected?

  • Selection is based on academic merit and the strength of documentation provided.
  • Decisions made by the NZSM Scholarships Committee in consultation with the Head of Classical Voice.

    • Actively engage in NZSM community (ensembles, performances, presentations).

  • One year (non‑renewable, cannot be deferred).
