The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) is inviting applications for the 2025 AKS Hanmun (Classical Chinese) Fellowship โ€“ Advanced Course. This program is designed to support international scholars in deepening their understanding of Hanmun (Classical Chinese) within the context of Korean Studies. As part of AKSโ€™s mission to globalize and advance Korean Studies, the fellowship offers lectures, recitations, research opportunities, and on-site tours at the Academy of Korean Studies in South Korea. Participants will engage with Classical Chinese texts, including works like Mencius, Selected Readings of the Hundred Schools of Thought, Classical Chinese Poetry, and more.

Who can Apply For The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) KS Hanmun Fellowship?

Also, the eligibility criteria include:

  • Undergraduate students, master’s and doctoral degree students majoring in Korean Studies at overseas
  • University (including candidates of master’s or doctoral degrees).
  • Korean nationals and graduates are not eligible for this program.
  • Must have completed a basic Hanmun(Hanja) course.
    Advanced Korean language skills are required, as the program will be taught in Korean.

How are Applicants Selected?

  • A document review will be conducted, after which selected applicants will be invited for a video interview.
  • Interviews will take place between April 29 and May 8, 2025, with individual sessions arranged based on the applicantโ€™s country and time zone.
  • The final acceptance results will be announced via email on May 13, 2025.

Required Documents:

  1. Application form (downloadable from the AKS website).
  2. Certificate of registration or completion.
  3. A letter of reference from an academic advisor explaining the necessity of Hanmun study for the applicant.
  4. Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) score report (if applicable).
  5. Proof of completion of a basic Hanmun (Hanja) course (choose one of the following):
    • A university transcript or certificate proving completion of a Hanmun (Hanja) course.
    • An AKS Hanmun Fellowship Certificate of Completion.
    • All documents must be in Korean or English or be accompanied by a notarized translation.
