The “Miss Sarah” Fellowship for Black Women Writers aims to provide Black women writers a restful environment conducive to reflection and writing. It also offers uninterrupted, independent time to plant the seed of an idea for a new writing project or to develop or complete a project underway.

Who can Apply For The Miss Sarah Fellowship for Black women Writers?

Also, Black women writers at any stage of their careers are invited to apply. For applicants outside of the United States, please note that travel expenses will only be covered within the United States. International airfare will be at the expense of the applicant. There is no application fee.

Applicants are also to submit the following:

  • Submit a CV or resume (not exceeding 5 pages).
  • Include a one-page Fellowship Proposal Statement outlining the project context and goals.
  • Write a one-page statement explaining “Why Trillium Arts?” and how the Fellowship will benefit your creative work.
  • Provide one letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your writing project, addressing specific questions about the project and the applicant.
  • Include a writing sample of 10 to 15 pages of work intended for further development, formatted in one PDF document.
