The RISE Worldwide Programme (Research Internships in Science and Engineering), funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), offers summer research internships for bachelor’s students in natural sciences, life sciences, engineering, computer science, medicine, and pharmacy. Students join international research teams at universities and institutions worldwide, gaining practical experience and building global networks.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree at a German university (foreign nationals included if completing their degree in Germany).
  • Have completed at least one semester by the time of application.
  • Be studying in one of the eligible fields.
  • Not apply for internships in their home country (funding excluded).

How Are Interns Selected

  • Based on academic background and fit with the research project.
  • Motivation letters tailored to each project.
  • Academic recommendation from a university lecturer.

Which Countries are Eligible

  • German bachelor’s students only (including foreign nationals enrolled in Germany).

Where Will the Internship Be Taken

  • Worldwide universities and research institutions (57 countries in 2027 cycle).
  • Working language is usually English.

How Many Internships

  • Over 500 projects available worldwide.

What is the Benefit of the Internship

  • Monthly scholarship (amount varies by destination).

How Long Will the Internship Last

  • 6 weeks to 3 months (June – October 2027).

Required Documents

  • Tabular CV.
  • Motivation letter (1–2 pages per project).
  • Transcript of records.
  • List of relevant courses.
  • Proof of English proficiency (B2 level; IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, TELC, TOEIC, or DAAD certificate).
  • Academic recommendation from a lecturer.
