What is the Nigeria Student Loan?
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed into law the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2024.
The board’s members are drawn from relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, and participating agencies, including;
- The Federal Ministries of Finance and Education
- The FIRS, NIMC, NUC, NBTE, and NCCE
- Representatives of universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, students of tertiary institutions, and the organized private sector.
The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the student loan program to make it easier for financially needy Nigerian students to obtain financing.
Its goal was to free up financially vulnerable Nigerian students from having to pay for their education, granting everyone an equal right to an education.
Only Indigenous Nigerian students across higher institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education) and vocational institutions are eligible to apply for the student loan in 2024.
