The Immigration Research Initiative (IRI) located in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University (Montreal) announces its scholarship competition for early career researchers. The IRI is seeking applications for three 4-6 week scholarships for the year 2024/2025 in the field of immigration.

Funded by the Quebec Secretariat for Canadian Relations , the IRI aims to forge links between immigration research carried out in Quebec and that carried out elsewhere in the world. Its scholarship program for early career researchers aims to support postdoctoral researchers, assistant professors or teachers in an equivalent position, who are carrying out or want to carry out a research project linked to the IRI’s mission.

Which Fields are Eligible?

More precisely, the IRI is looking for applications wishing to develop a project on one of the following two themes:

1) feelings of national identification among immigrants and ethnocultural minorities

2) the place of immigration and ethnocultural diversity in the construction of national identity within the host society.

Priority will be given to projects relating to Quebec and/or any other multinational state, but the proposed projects may also relate to other case studies. Applicants must be affiliated with an academic or research institution. The successful candidates will work in collaboration with Antoine Bilodeau and/or Mireille Paquet.

The scholarship is worth CAN$6,000 covering travel and living expenses during your stay at Concordia University.

Those selected must be present at Concordia University for a period of 4 to 6 weeks and must begin their stay before January 1, 2025 .

Those chosen will have to organize a seminar with the help of Antoine Bilodeau and Mireille Paquet where they will present their research. They will also be integrated into the activities of the Research Team on Immigration in Current Quebec .
