United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is launching a multi-phase capacity development programme to strengthen the capacity of African youth and women to transform innovative ideas into scalable, partnership-ready, and investment-oriented initiatives.

Tell Me About The Program:

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with support from the Government of Japan, is launching a multi‑phase program to empower youth and women professionals from Sub‑Saharan Africa. Running from 17 August 2026 – 28 February 2027 in Hiroshima, Japan (blended delivery), the program strengthens entrepreneurial and leadership skills, supports project development, and fosters Africa–Japan partnerships aligned with TICAD9 priorities.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be youth or women professionals aged 18–35.
  • Be nationals of Anglophone Sub‑Saharan African countries: Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • Be aspiring or early‑stage entrepreneurs, SME founders, professionals, researchers, social innovators, or ecosystem builders.

How are Applicants Selected?

  • Based on innovation capacity, leadership potential, project feasibility, and community impact.
  • Progression to advanced phases (including Japan immersion) is competitive and performance‑based.

  • Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Where will the Program be Taken?

  • Blended delivery: Virtual learning + in‑person immersion in Hiroshima, Japan (Phase III).

How Many Awards?

  • Limited slots available; competitive selection.
