The British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) invites graduate students, early career researchers and practitioners to submit their paper abstracts for the 2023 Graduate Conference. We welcome papers addressing any topic on ethnicity and national identity in Africa. Papers related to BIEA thematic areas and topics in ‘minority’, ‘marginalised’, and ‘Indigenous’ categories of group identification are especially encouraged.
Which Fields are Eligible? Below are BIEA Thematic Areas:
- Epidemics, pandemics and epizootics
- Citizens and science
- Knowing environments
- Technologies of politics
- Urban lives
- Retelling the past

Who can Apply?
- Open to graduate students, early career researchers and practitioners.
- Submitted abstract should address the above theme or one of the sub theme.

How to Apply: Submit your title and abstracts (150-200 words), and a short bio of not more than 100 words (indicating your affiliation, area of research interest, contact details), in PDF format addressing the above theme/sub-themes to [email protected] on or before 14th July 2023.

Successful applicants will be informed by 31st July 2023. Full Paper submission deadline 20th October 2023.
