The programme has a master trainer approach and will have 100 academic staff in the first cohort, with a strong focus on technology-enhanced teaching and learning approaches and strategies. Following a regional breakdown, the lecturers’ capacity development component of the programme will target up to 900 academic staff in an online and hybrid format.

The content areas of the programme are:

  • teaching and learning
  • academic development
  • curriculum development and assessment
  • research and scholarship
  • ICT and data analytics
  • educational leadership
  • academic entrepreneurialism
  • personal development.

The first part of the programme will start in May 2021.

Type: Training

Eligibility: Professors, associate professors, senior lecturers, lecturers and junior lecturers are invited to apply for the Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) University Lecturer Development Programme (ULDP).

  1. With regard to the selection of forty (40) academic staff members per university, it is envisaged that these individuals:
  1. Should be drawn from the ranks of the following job categories – Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer and Junior Lecturer;
    1. Should include academic staff who have participated or still participating in the DHET’s NGAP programme;
    1. Should have a range of teaching experience and disciplines, depending on each university’s self-identified needs and priorities; and
    1. Be prepared to commit to fully participating in the online and/or hybrid, part-time, mostly synchronous programme over a 3 month period.

How to Apply: Interested academics must complete the relevant forms and submit them to the Office of the DVC: Teaching and Learning via email by no later than Monday, 22 February. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
