The ITU Gender Champions Programme 2027 is now open for applications. Young women leaders aged 18–25 who are advancing digital transformation and digital inclusion can apply by 15 November 2026.
This fellowship from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will recognize and support emerging women leaders who use technology to create positive change. The inaugural cohort will support up to four young women leaders. Selected champions will take part in the AI for Good Global Summit 2027 in Geneva, Switzerland. In addition, they may receive support for a community-level project, subject to available funds.

The ITU Gender Champions Programme is an initiative implemented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with support from Australia and Women’s WorldWide Web (W4). It recognizes and supports emerging young women leaders who are using digital technology to advance inclusive development, promote digital inclusion, and help shape a more equitable digital future. Selected Champions join a global network and receive funding and support to participate in the AI for Good Global Summit 2027, alongside potential grants for community-level projects.

Digital technology, digital transformation, digital skills, connectivity, technology innovation, online safety, AI for social good, and inclusive digital policies (with a focus on gender equality in digital transformation).

Who can Apply?:
- Young women aged 18 to 25.
- Nationals of specific countries from ITU Regions: Africa, Americas, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, and Commonwealth of Independent States.
- Individuals using digital technology to advance inclusive development, close the gender digital divide, or empower women and girls.
- Applicants fluent in English (all applications must be submitted in English).
How are Applicants Selected?:
Applications are reviewed by the ITU and programme partners against criteria including:
- Relevance to gender equality in digital transformation.
- Demonstrated leadership in closing the gender digital divide.
- Measurable impact and scalability of initiatives.
- Originality and innovation.
- Capacity for collaboration and sustained engagement (ensuring diversity of backgrounds and geographical representation).

Specific countries across ITU Regions: Africa, Americas, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, and Commonwealth of Independent States.
Where will the Award be Taken?:
Geneva, Switzerland (participation in the AI for Good Global Summit 2027) and local community implementation.

Up to four outstanding young women leaders for the inaugural cohort.
