The TU/e Scholarship for Excellence: Shaping the Future of Microchip Innovation is a competitive merit-based scholarship for international students applying for selected full-time Master’s programmes at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Netherlands.
The scholarship provides approximately €7,500 per academic year for up to two years, provided students meet the required study-progress conditions.
Approximately 35 scholarships are available: 20 for EEA students and 15 for non-EEA students.

The scholarship is focused on programmes connected to microchip technology, advanced computing, engineering, physics, mathematics and energy systems.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Apply for an eligible full-time TU/e Master’s programme for the 2027–2028 academic year, starting 1 September 2027.
- Meet the admission requirements of their chosen programme.
- Hold or be completing a non-Dutch high-school diploma or university Bachelor’s degree, as applicable.
- Have a latest transcript with a GPA of at least 7.5/10.
- Not have completed higher education in the Netherlands. Exchange programmes are allowed.
- Meet Dutch entry visa and residence-permit requirements where applicable.
- Not apply for a joint Master’s programme with Tilburg University (JADS) or a European Double Degree programme.
- Not have been admitted using an admission decision from a previous intake.
There is no stated age limit.
How Are Applicants Selected?
After the deadline:
- TU/e International Office checks applications for eligibility.
- Eligible applications are sent to the Scholarship Selection Committee.
- The committee assesses and ranks eligible applications.
- TU/e expects to confirm selections by the end of March 2027.
Applicants must include a brief motivation explaining why they are a strong candidate for the scholarship.
The scholarship is highly competitive, with TU/e stating that approximately 2% of applicants receive the scholarship.
Which Countries Are Eligible?
International applicants with a non-Dutch educational qualification who meet the scholarship requirements.
Approximately:
- 20 scholarships are allocated to EEA students.
- 15 scholarships are allocated to non-EEA students.

What Is the Benefit of the Award?
Recipients receive:
- €7,500 per academic year
- Up to €15,000 over two years
- Payment in monthly instalments to a Dutch or SEPA bank account
The scholarship is not fully funded. Students must still contribute significantly toward tuition and living expenses.
Non-EEA students must also independently demonstrate sufficient financial means for their Dutch visa/residence-permit process.
For non-EEA students, the first-year portion is partly funded through the Dutch government’s NL Scholarship programme. No separate NL Scholarship application is required.
How Long Will the Award Last?
The scholarship is available for up to two years for the standard two-year Master’s programme.
To receive the second-year scholarship, students must earn at least 45 ECTS during their first year.
Scholarship recipients are also expected to complete their Master’s degree within 36 months.

There is no separate scholarship portal.

- Apply for the Master’s programme.
- Submit a complete application with all required documents.
- Confirm in the application that you want to be considered for the TU/e Scholarship for Excellence.
- Include a brief motivation explaining why you are a strong candidate.
- Submit the complete application by 1 January 2027 at 23:59 CET.
- Wait for the selection results, expected by the end of March 2027.
The scholarship cannot be deferred or transferred to an ineligible Master’s programme, and the selection outcome cannot be appealed.
