Applications are now open for the IFRA-Nigeria Research Grants 2027. The deadline is 30 October 2026, 23:59 WAT. This call supports second-year Master’s students, doctoral and postdoctoral students, and researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
IFRA-Nigeria plans to fund about a dozen projects between January and October 2027. Selected projects may receive grants up to €1,000, depending on the nature and budget of the project. Research must take place in one or more countries within IFRA-Nigeria’s mandate.

About the Grant
The IFRA-Nigeria Research Grants 2027 support fieldwork and archival research in the humanities and social sciences. Applications are accepted in English or French.
The programme is open to individual and collaborative projects. However, applicants must clearly define each participant’s role in collaborative proposals. In addition, projects should include a valorisation component such as publications or oral presentations linked to IFRA-Nigeria activities.
Eligibility
- Open to second-year Master’s students, doctoral and postdoctoral students, and researchers.
- Research must be in the humanities and social sciences.
- Disciplines outside this field are not eligible.
- Projects must concern one of the nine countries in IFRA-Nigeria’s mandate.
- Applications can be submitted in English or French.
- There is no nationality requirement.
Grant Amount: Grants up to €1,000, depending on the nature and budget of the project
Project Duration: Funding period: January 2027 to October 2027 (projects involving fieldwork missions and/or archival stays)
Funding Scope: Financial support for fieldwork and archival research. Half of the grant is paid at the start of the project in January 2027. The second half is paid after submission of the final report, which is due before 15 November 2027.
