The AEIP Scholars Programme 2026-2027 is now open for applications, and the deadline is 31 August 2026. This initiative brings together African and European scholars for collaborative, solution-orientated research aligned with the AU-EU Innovation Agenda.


Selected participants will work in five Africa-Europe pairs. In addition, the top three pairs will be invited to present their work at the AEIP Stakeholder Meeting in Europe in June 2027.

The AEIP Scholars Programme is a collaborative initiative that brings together African and European scholars to advance joint research, strengthen cooperation, and address shared global challenges. The programme supports peer learning, innovation, and science communication while aligning with the AU‑EU Innovation Agenda.

Which Fields are Eligible?

Applications are welcome from scholars whose research aligns with the capacities for science action of the AU‑EU innovation agenda, across disciplines in the following:

  • Research & Innovation
  • Science Communication
  • Global Challenges

Type:

  • Research Fellowship | Collaborative Innovation | Africa–Europe Partnership

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be aged 25–35.
  • Be based in Africa or Europe.
  • Be enrolled in a PhD, postdoc, or further studies at the time of application.
  • Have ongoing or completed research projects aligned with the AU‑EU Innovation Agenda.

How are applicants selected?

  • Ten scholars will be shortlisted and paired into five Africa–Europe scholar pairs.
  • Selection based on:
    • Relevance of research.
    • Academic quality.
    • Innovation potential.
    • Alignment with Africa–Europe cooperation priorities.
  • Pairs collaborate on joint research outputs and solution‑oriented innovations.
  • Top three pairs present at the AEIP Stakeholder Meeting in June 2027.

Which Countries are Eligible?

  • All African and European countries.

Where will the award be taken?

  • Collaborative research conducted across Africa and Europe, with final presentations in Europe (June 2027).

How Many Awards?

  • 10 scholars selected (5 Africa–Europe pairs).
  • Top 3 pairs recognised as finalists.
