The Feminist Leadership Accelerator for Change (FLAC) Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications, with a deadline of 27 July 2026. Hosted by the Soul City Institute for Social Justice, this 12-month fellowship supports young African women who want to lead social change in their communities.

Tell Me About the Fellowship Programme:

The Feminist Leadership Accelerator for Change (FLAC), hosted by the Soul City Institute for Social Justice (SCI), is a 12‑month fellowship designed to nurture feminist consciousness and build the capacity of young African women to lead change in their communities. It is a transformational learning and co‑creation space that inspires participants to embrace feminist activism, challenge unjust systems, and advance social justice.

Programme Structure & Modules:

Fellows engage in immersive learning, peer dialogue, and practical action across modules such as:

  • Gender & Healing – childhood conditioning & recovery.
  • Feminism 101 – African feminist epistemology & decolonial thought.
  • Communications & Media – storytelling, advocacy campaigns, digital strategy.
  • Feminist Activism & Movement Building.
  • Sexual & Gender‑Based Violence & reproductive justice.
  • Feminist Leadership – power, ethics & practice.
  • Economic & Climate Justice.
  • Community Accelerator Project – design & implementation.
  • Job Readiness & Professional Development.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Hold at least a high school certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree.
  • Be 19–25 years old at the time of application.
  • Self‑identify as a woman (inclusive definition).
  • Demonstrate community leadership or activism (preferred).
  • Show commitment to social justice and feminist principles.
  • Reside in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, or Zimbabwe.
  • Women in rural areas and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

How Are Applicants Selected?

Selection is based on:

  • CV (max 3 pages, including leadership example).
  • Motivation letter.
  • Motivation video (2–3 minutes).
  • Two recommendation letters from community representatives.
  • One reference letter from a former educator confirming leadership role.
