The Swedish Institute (SI) offers exclusive traineeship opportunities at Swedish companies abroad for current and former international master’s students. If you have studied in Sweden and want to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges in your home country, this is your chance.

Internship Location: Your country of citizenship (with Swedish companies)
Duration: Up to 6 months (August 2026 – January 2027)
Compensation: Paid (monthly scholarship + travel grant for those in Sweden), monthly scholarship payments and a one-time travel grant (15,000 SEK for those in Sweden)

About the Internship

The traineeship program is part of the Sweden Alumni Academy. SI and Swedish Embassies offer these opportunities in selected ODA/ODC countries. You will work full-time on tasks and projects that match your academic background and long-term goals. Each trainee will have a designated supervisor for support and guidance, ensuring you gain meaningful professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work on projects and tasks relevant to your academic field.
  • Engage with local Swedish business networks.
  • Apply your Swedish education in a practical, international setting.
  • Submit a traineeship report to SI after completion.

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be an international master’s student graduating in Sweden by summer 2026, or an alumnus who graduated in 2023 or later.
  • You must hold citizenship in one of the eligible countries.
  • Your academic and professional profile should match the requirements for the traineeship position.
  • You must be able to undertake a full-time traineeship for up to 6 months, starting between August 2026 and January 2027.
  • You can only apply for a traineeship in your country of citizenship.
  • You must clearly explain how the traineeship fits your background and career goals.

Skills Preferred: Relevant academic background, motivation, and alignment with the traineeship’s requirements.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the application portal on the official SI website.
  2. Click your country of origin to view available positions and access the application form.
  3. Submit your application between 10 March and 23 April 2026.
  4. Prepare and upload the required documents:
    • Copy of your passport (showing nationality)
    • CV (using the SI CV template)
    • Current students: Updated transcript of records (LADOK electronic PDF)
    • Former students: Copy of your Swedish degree
    • If you had an SI scholarship: Copy of your degree and scholarship offer
  5. Wait for the selection process (24 April – 15 June 2026). Companies may contact you for interviews.
  6. Successful candidates will receive offers by end of May or early June 2026.

Remember, you can only apply for one traineeship and only in your country of citizenship. Accommodation arrangements are your responsibility. SI cannot provide housing support. Monthly scholarship payments and a one-time travel grant (15,000 SEK for those in Sweden) are included. All traineeships must end by 31 January 2027.

I’m currently a student – What if I don’t graduate by June like everyone else, can I still apply

Unfortunately you are not eligible to apply in this year’s application round. We invite you to try again next year. 

I’m a former student I did not graduate with the original timing, can I still apply?

Yes, if you have received your degree from your Swedish university and meet all the other requirements, you are eligible to apply. 

Can I apply for a traineeship in any of the programme countries or only my country of citizenship?

No, you can only apply for one traineeship and it has to be offered in your country of citizenship.
