The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) intends to award comprehensive bursaries to qualifying applicants pursuing and/or intending to further their studies in a career in the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sectors for the 2026 academic year.

About the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment Award:  The internship awards target the previously disadvantaged and impoverished persons from poverty-stricken and rural communities. People with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be appointed as interns and placed with the relevant industry/research institution/institution of higher learning as young professionals. Successful candidates will also be allocated a mentor and will receive a monthly allowance from the department

  • be unemployed youth (South African (SA) citizens);
  • have not previously participated in any internship programme in the public service;
  • have completed at least a three (3) year qualification from a recognised higher education institution.

Value of Internship: Interns will receive a stipend/allowance of R7,860.50 per month

How to Apply: All applications should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Motivation as to why the bursary should be awarded to you.
  • Certified copies of qualifications and recent academic records
  • Certified copies of identity document (applicant and both parents or guardian)
  • Proof of registration (if already enrolled with the institution of higher learning)
  • Latest Grade 12 results (if currently in High School)
  • Proof of parents or guardian’s income.
  • Proof if parents are deceased.
  • Affidavit if parents are not working.
