About the Internship

The SSEC Internship Program focuses on transforming K-12 education through science. Interns will support curriculum development, program evaluation, event planning, and educational content creation. The program offers three main internship tracks:

  • Research Assistant Intern: Support program evaluation and research in science education. Assist with survey development, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • STEAM Schools of Distinction Intern: Help plan and execute the STEAM Schools of Distinction Strategic Planning Institute. Gain experience in educational program development and event planning.
  • Smithsonian Science for the Classroom Intern: Collaborate on curriculum development. Research and draft nonfiction stories for middle school science units.

Internships last 8–10 weeks, with start dates between May and August 2026. Virtual, hybrid, and in-person options are available. Hours range from 30–40 per week, depending on the role.
