Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has many avenues through which it supports education. Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.  has a four-tier scholarship programme that is aimed at supporting the development of human capital and encouraging high output, mentoring a lot of Nigerian undergraduates to become world-class graduates with a competitive advantage. This scholarship scheme began in 1998 as part of the Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.  corporate social responsibility to the citizens of Nigeria to promote the development of human capacity and is available to everyone in a vast majority of Nigerian institutions and even overseas. This four-tier programme is as follows:

• Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Undergraduate Scholarships
• Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship
• Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Internally Displaced Persons Scholarship

Post Primary School Scholarships

The post-primary school scholarship started in 2012 with 28 recipients and has since then expanded to a total of 172 recipients. This aims at providing support to the basic six pupils in host communities and oil-producing states who have achieved an exceptional academic record. They will receive uninterrupted access to post-primary education. Prospective pupils are admitted based on their performance at the National Examinations Council’s Common Entrance Examinations.

Undergraduate Scholarship

The undergraduate scholarship scheme was only for host communities and the rest of Nigeria was not allowed to participate until 2003. With almost a total of N600 disbursed annually, over 2,833 undergraduates from universities across the country have participated and is worth N100, 000 to N300, 000 per recipient on an annual basis throughout the duration of the study.

Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships

Launched in 2012, it had a total of fifteen beneficiaries who studied in top UK universities and is worth N9 to N11million depending on course of study and duration. It is applicable to a range of selected fields namely; Environmental Studies, Medicine, Engineering, Accountancy, Law, Economics, Management, Geology, Information Technology, and Banking.

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Scholarships

Designed to see only people from the North-eastern Nigeria through secondary school, this scholarship scheme helps to promote education in the states that were greatly affected by insurgency- Adamawa, Borno and Yobe where 10 students are selected from these three states making them a total of 30 beneficiaries.

Requirements differ according to the level of study.

Application Requirements for Post Primary Education Scholarships

Applicants must:

• be an indigene of NLNG host community.
• be in basic 5 or 6.
• provide their basic 5 or 6 results.
• provide a letter of attestation signed and stamped by the head master or mistress of his or her school and also their contact.
• provide an indigene confirmation letter by the CDC chief in their community.
• provide a letter of identification by their local government.
• not be a child or ward of staff of Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.

Application Requirements for Undergraduate scholarships

Applicants are to:

• have excellent results at the West Africa School Certificate or National Examination Council in one sitting.
• have an excellent result at the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
• be a certified full-time first-year student of any Nigerian university at the time of application.
• not be a beneficiary of other scholarship awards.
• not be a relative or ward of any staff at Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.

Application Requirements for overseas postgraduate Scholarship

applicants must have been offered provisional admission from the under listed UK institutions:

• University of Aberdeen
• University of Manchester
• University of Cranfield

– posses at least a second class upper degree in a related field of study.

– enrolled and completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program

– obtained a minimum of 8.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

– applicants should not be above 30years at the time of application.

– applicants should be residing in Nigeria.

– applicants should provide a letter of identification from local government councils.

– provide a valid international passport.

– not be a relative or ward of any staff at Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas limited.

-Provide a letter of consent from the employer if in service or any organization.

– Applicants should be able to obtain a UK Tier-4 student visa upon being successful.

How to Apply

Applicants for the post-primary school scholarship should make available the requested documents and attach them to avoid disqualification and they are advised to fill in valid contact details. Only shortlisted candidates are invited for the selection test.

Interested persons for the undergraduate scholarships must include a scanned copy of the following documents:

• a passport photograph
• National Examination Council (NECO) or West African School Certificate (WASC) result.
• Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) result
• Admission letter offered by their university
• University student ID card
• A letter of identification from their Local Government Area

Disqualification could be as a result of incomplete attachments or non-adherence to criteria meted out.
