Who can Apply for the University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor Scholarship?
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be an international student.
- Must have applied for and not yet commenced a CRICOS-registered bachelor’s or postgraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney.
- Must have received an unconditional offer of admission by the relevant close date.
- Applicants who are commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible, provided they have not previously held the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships.
- Recipients of scholarships provided by the Australian Government are not eligible.
How are Applicants Selected?
The VCIS is awarded based on academic merit, as assessed from the student’s application for admission to the University of Sydney. A selection committee will nominate recipients, which includes two nominees from the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students, and one nominee from the Admissions Office.

What is the Benefit of the University of Sydney Vice-Chancellor Scholarship?
The scholarship provides four possible amounts based on the recipient’s ranking:
- $40,000 payable for one year in two equal instalments per semester.
- $20,000 payable for one semester.
- $10,000 payable for one semester.
- $5,000 payable for one semester.
Students who receive the scholarship are also expected to maintain satisfactory academic performance to continue receiving payments.
