As part of the university’s support for Chinese students, the University of Sussex will cover tuition fees, and the CSC will provide a living allowance.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the University of Sussex are offering 5-10 joint scholarships for outstanding PhD students and visiting scholars from China. The University of Sussex will cover tuition fees, and the CSC will provide a living allowance. This scholarship is available for a three-year PhD program or up to 12 months for visiting scholars.

Who can Apply for the China Scholarship Council (CSC) & University of Sussex Scholarships?
- Citizens of the People’s Republic of China, either permanently residing in China or studying overseas (those working overseas are not eligible).
- Applicants must meet CSC’s eligibility criteria and the University of Sussex’s English Language Requirements.
- Arts, humanities, and social sciences applicants need a first-class honors degree and a master’s degree by September 2025 or January 2026.
- Science and engineering applicants must have a first-class honors degree and preferably a relevant master’s degree.
- Current first-year PhD students at Sussex and 1+3 Chinese Sussex students in their master’s year are eligible.
How are Applicants Selected?
Selection is based on academic qualifications, CSC’s eligibility criteria, and the ability to meet the university’s language requirements. Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their studies.
